The Traps: MH

I had configured MH to send mail via SMTP, so didn't expect any problems here. Whoops.

I had two minor problems:

no Message-ID
"wrong" hostname

It turns out (arrghh!) that MH will only put a message-id line in the header if you ask nicely. Grumble grumble. You ask nicely by including "-msgid" as an argument to send.

The "wrong" hostname was the fully qualified domain name of my workstation.

Now:

qmail was installed to masquerade as the domain
masquerading worked when qmail was used directly
I hadn't changed MH

It turns out (Aaarrgghh!!) that MH was always using the workstation's fully qualified domain name, and sendmail had been "fixing it up".

MH will use the correct name if you specify it as the "localname" entry in its mtstailor file.
